The Fish and Wildlife Service will remove protections for the gray wolf in the lower 48 states and return management of the species to states and tribes.
Acting Interior Secretary David Bernhardt announced the proposal of a rule to delist the gray wolf during a wildlife management conference March 6 in Denver, saying the recovery of the animal under the Endangered Species Act is a one of the nation’s great conservation successes.
