Interior Ends Oil Lease Halt With Postings in Several States (6)

The Interior Department took steps to end its onshore oil and gas leasing pause Tuesday by posting at least 750,000 acres in nine states for possible inclusion in oil and gas lease sales scheduled for February and March 2022.

The postings kick off a 30-day “scoping” and public comment period on the parcels before the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management determines through an environmental review whether the parcels are eligible to be included in a lease sale. The review is expected to include an assessment of greenhouse gas emissions associated with producing oil and gas from the leases.
