Interior Delists Protected Plant Despite South Carolina Dissent

The Trump administration on Monday said it’s removing an imperiled plant from the Endangered Species list over the objections of state wildlife officials in South Carolina, where development threatens the rare species.

Endangered Species Act protections for the dwarf-flowered heartleaf will be removed under the final rule that appeared in a Federal Register public inspection notice on Monday.

The plant is at least the third speciesremoved from the protected list or proposed to be delisted since President Donald Trump took office in January. His administration also is considering removing some grizzly bear protections.
