Industry Slams Tougher Air Rules as EPA Readies Soot Limits (1)

Critics of tougher particulate matter air quality limits unleashed a flurry of disapproval actions this month, lambasting incoming rules that could stem widespread pollution from large swaths of industry.

The Environmental Protection Agency is in the last stages of finalizing new National Ambient Air Quality Standards for particulate matter, or PM 2.5. The rules will potentially decrease the amount of PM 2.5 that is allowable in states’ ambient air, triggering increased requirements to protect public health in many areas that don’t meet the limits.
