India’s Leading Wind Energy State Lowers Required Purchases, Includes More Entities

MUMBAI—The government of Tamil Nadu, India’s leading wind power-producing state, has amended regulations on the mandatory purchase of renewable energy credits, lowering the amounts that must be bought while requiring more entities to buy them.

At over 14 gigawatts, wind energy represents more than 70 percent of India’s renewable energy mix. Tamil Nadu, in the southernmost part of India, has 50 percent of the country’s installed wind capacity and generates 40 percent of its wind power.
