Indiana Homeowners, Johnson Controls Settle Contamination Claims

Indiana residents reached an agreement with Johnson Controls Inc. in a class action that alleged exposure to harmful vapors from a manufacturing facility, according to a federal judge who dismissed the case.

The plaintiffs claimed in 2014 that a former Johnson Controls plant in Goshen, Ind., dumped various chemicals which flowed off-site onto their properties. The site’s purchaser, TOCON Holdings LLC, demolished several buildings but did nothing to clean up the resulting debris, which contained hazardous chemicals like asbestos, lead, mercury, and PCBs, they said.
