India Approves 20 New Insecticides for Manufacture, Import

India’s Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare approved 20 new insecticides for manufacture, import and use in the country.

These include the broad-spectrum foliar fungicide benzovindiflupyr, sold by the Swiss agrichemicals company Syngenta; spirodiclofen, a pesticide that kills arachnids such as ticks and mites, sold by Germany-based Bayer CropScience, among others; and the fungicide fluoxastrobin also produced by Bayer CropScience.

The list also includes the highly toxic nitrobenzene used in insecticides and pesticides, although pentachloronitrobenzene, which is derived from nitrobenzene is not approved (as per the list of approved insecticides on the Central Insecticide Board and Review Committee website).
