Illinois Governor Pritzker Vows to Grow Nuclear Energy Sector

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) called for the state to build at least 2 gigawatts of new nuclear capacity, continuing the state’s political U-turn on the energy source roughly a month after lifting a decades-long moratorium on constructing new, large reactors.

Pritzker, in his state of the state address Wednesday where he announced the executive order to advance the nuclear energy sector, said his directive is “designed to speed up building new clean nuclear power so that we can increase our electricity supply and secure our energy future.”
