Illinois is beginning 2022 with new rules and a law to combat potentially harmful health and environmental effects of “forever chemicals.”
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is expected to propose a rule to implement the PFAS Reduction Act (S.B. 561), a law that took effect Jan. 1. The law prohibits the knowing manufacture, sale, distribution for sale, or distribution for use of a class B firefighting foam containing intentionally added PFAS.
Additionally, the state EPA proposed rules in December that if made final will establish groundwater quality standards for five PFAS chemicals.
