Furniture giant Ikea wants Sweden to align its packaging waste laws with European standards, but other industries say proposed updates to the country’s recycling regulations lack many needed details.
The proposal is out for public comment until May 18, after which a bill would be drafted. It would require companies to ensure that all packaging waste from consumer goods and other products is collected and recycled.
All companies that manufacture, import, or sell packaging or packaged goods are responsible for ensuring that end users are able to recycle the packaging. A similar requirement applies to newspapers and magazines.
