The federal government alleged that the companies polluted public drinking supplies with tetrachloroethylene and cis-1,2-dichloroethene through contaminated soil, caused by stored chemicals that leaked into the groundwater. To remedy the pollution, the companies must extract contaminated soil and soil vapors and address broader sitewide groundwater, the consent decree says.
