HP Loses Fight to Sue Testing Company in Oregon Over Explosion

HP Inc. lost its bid to litigate claims in Oregon against a safety testing company over its approval of a hydrogen generator that exploded because the out-of-state company’s contacts there didn’t make the suit foreseeable, the state top court ruled.

Oregon courts lack jurisdiction over TÜV Rheinland of North America Inc. even though a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision had the effect of broadening the state’s jurisdiction rules, Justice Meagan A. Flynn said Thursday for the Oregon Supreme Court.
