Honolulu Fights Oil Major Claims That Climate Suit Is Untimely

Climate tort allegations brought by the city and county of Honolulu haven’t passed their legal expiration date and can move to trial, according to a memorandum filed by plaintiffs.

Claims of fraud and deception against Exxon Mobil Corp., Sunoco LP, and other energy companies are made up of tortious conduct that has persisted until the present-day, meaning they aren’t barred by the statute of limitations, according to Honolulu.

Oil majors in the case pending in Hawaii’s First Circuit Court are bidding for summary judgment, hoping to dismiss the case before the discovery and trial process.
