Honeywell, Mack Truck, EPA to Clean Up Old Maryland Explosives Site (1)

Honeywell International Inc. and Mack Truck Inc. agreed to pay $11 million to clean up the site of a World War II-era fireworks and munitions manufacturer in Elkton, Md.

Honeywell, based in Morris Plains, N.J., and Mack Truck, a division of Swedish automaker Volvo, will each pay $5.5 million to remove hazardous waste from the Elkton Farm Firehole site in Cecil County, according to a consent decree filed Aug. 17 in U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

The Environmental Protection Agency will also spend $6.25 million on the cleanup, the consent decree says. ...
