High Court Denies Doe Run Petition to Hear Smelter Case in Peru

The US Supreme Court will allow a federal court in Missouri to hear a Peruvian case against Doe Run Resources Corp., a lead mining company based in a St. Louis suburb whose lead emissions allegedly harmed thousands of Peruvians.

The justices denied certiorari on Monday in Doe Run’s challenge to an August US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit ruling that the Missouri court can adjudicate claims brought against the company by more than 2,000 Peruvian nationals.
