HHS to Propose Stricter Fluoride Target; EPA to Review Maximum Contaminant Level

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, reacting to a new health risk assessment of fluoride, said Jan. 7 that it is proposing to lower the recommended level of fluoride in drinking water to the bottom end of what has been the recommended range.

The proposed change, to be published soon in the Federal Register, would recommend a level of 0.7 part per million of fluoride in water, rather than the current range of 0.7 to 1.2 ppm.
