HF Sinclair, Phillips 66 Win EPA Biofuel-Blending Exemptions

Refineries owned by HF Sinclair Corp. and Phillips 66 Co. won exemptions from biofuel blending mandates from the Trump administration Friday, while requests by Chevron Corp. were denied.

The Environmental Protection Agency said it acted on 16 petitions for eight refineries, granting full or partial exemptions from annual blending quotas dating back to 2021 for 14 of the petitions, according to an agency press release.

The moves by the EPA were part of a broader set of rulings on waivers requested by small oil refineries seeking exemptions from ethanol- and biodiesel-blending obligations that could impact biofuel demand.
