House leaders have struck a deal to boost money for federal community health centers by about 5% over two years.
Supporters of community health centers have been on Capitol Hill all week advocating for an increase in funding for the almost 1,400 federally-supported health centers across the US, which primarily serve low-income communities.
The Senate is split over extending the program. Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is pushing for an expansion that amounts to more than quadrupling funding for the health centers. His plan has no buy-in from Republicans.
