Hawaii Bill to Help Insurers Sue Polluters Fails Late in Session

Hawaii lawmakers failed to agree on legislation aimed at making it legally easier for the insurance industry to sue the fossil fuel sector over climate damages driving up insurers’ costs, homeowners’ premiums and non-renewals.

Hawaii was one of a handful of states to propose this type of polluters-pay bill and state lawmakers there advanced the legislation further than sponsors in other states.
