Groups Push to Stop White House Environmental Review Changes

Environmental groups are calling on a federal court to immediately halt the Trump administration’s rewrite of federal environmental review regulations.

Wild Virginia, the Congaree Riverkeeper, and other groups on Tuesday urged the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia to issue a preliminary injunction that would bar the White House Council on Environmental Quality from implementing updated procedures for federal reviews.

The new regulations, which replace Nixon-era rules, officially take effect Sept. 14 and are designed to fast-track and narrow the scope of National Environmental Policy Act studies that weigh the impacts of major federal actions.
