Environment and public health groups oppose the Environmental Protection Agency’s draft emergency response guidance on drinking water safety in the case of a radioactive incident, a proposal water supply professionals and others support.
The draft protective action guide, released in June, recommends allowing radioactive concentrations in drinking water to be significantly higher in emergency instances than levels deemed safe in the EPA’s existing regulations. It also recommends that emergency levels apply beyond the emergency phase of an event, 63 environmental groups, public health organizations and others said in a comment on the rule.
