A group of businesses, government agencies, nonprofits and others has released a set of principles to help purchasers and suppliers understand what constitutes sustainable procurement.
The principles say organizations should understand the environmental, social and economic impacts of their purchasing, take responsibility for those impacts, measure results, promote innovation and report on their performance.
They were developed by the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC), which formed in 2013 to develop a rating system for identifying best practices in sustainable purchasing 44 ER 2247, 7/26/13, 141 ECR, 7/23/13, 142 DEN A-18, 7/24/13, 142 DER A-27, 7/24/13.
