Green Groups Sue Army Corps to Stop Louisiana Swamp Project

The US Army Corps of Engineers allegedly violated federal law when it approved an ecological project without updating decades-old impact research, threatening a Louisiana swamp’s future, a new lawsuit says.

Atchafalaya Basinkeeper Inc. and four other nonprofits sued the Corps in the US District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana on Wednesday. The complaint alleges the agency violated the National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, Flood Control Act, and the Rivers and Harbors Act when it approved an ecological swamp enhancement project at East Grand Lake in 2023.
