Greece Aims to Cut Landfill Waste to 10% by 2030 From 80% Today

Greece aims to cut the amount of the country’s waste going into landfills to 10% of total waste by 2030 from a ‘disappointing’ 80% today, Environment Minister Kostis Hatzidakis says, according to emailed statement.

• Five measures to achieve this target are:
  • Introduction of a landfill tax to deter use of landfills for waste
  • Upgrading of sorting centers for recyclable materials
  • Establishment of national network of waste treatment centers with creation of 28 more such units by end 2023 from 6 today
  • Expansion of collection network for recyclable materials and biowaste with increase in number of biowaste treatment units to 31 ...
