Granholm Urges Expeditious Mountain Valley Pipeline Permit (1)

US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to “expeditiously” proceed with permitting the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a long-delayed and controversial natural gas project.

Granholm, in a letter to all four commissioners dated Friday, argued the pipeline, along with natural gas infrastructure more broadly, is crucial for the nation’s energy security and energy supply.

The stance mirrors that of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, who has advocated for Congress to pass a law expressly permitting the pipeline. Manchin praised Granholm’s letter in an emailed statement.
