Google Makes Biggest Clean Energy Purchase Ever by a Company

Alphabet Inc.’s Google agreed to a sweeping series of deals to buy wind and solar power, marking the largest-ever collective purchase of renewable energy by a single company.

Through 18 separate agreements, the tech giant will buy 1.6 gigawatts from wind and solar farms on three continents, Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai said in a company blog post. Combined with Google’s existing clean-energy capacity, that would be more than all the power produced throughout the nation of Uruguay, the Mountain View, California-based firm said.
