Georgia to Test for Ethylene Oxide Near Sterigenics, BD (1)

Georgia regulators will test the air around two medical device sterilization facilities for the cancer-causing gas ethylene oxide, a state agency announced Aug. 16 after weeks of growing public pressure over their emissions.

The state will set up four air sampling sites each around a Sterigenics U.S. LLC facility in Smyrna, and Becton, Dickinson & Co. facilities (previously C.R. Bard Inc.) near Covington, Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division said. The testing is set to begin within a few weeks, with results expected in November, the agency said.
