Georgia Developer Facing Clean Water Suit Over Native Artifacts

Savannah Land Holdings LLC is facing a suit alleging it violated conditions in its Clean Water Act permit by failing to properly protect Native American artifacts and human remains.

According to the complaint, Savannah Land, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Georgia State Historic Preservation Officer entered an agreement to facilitate protection of cultural resources on the 2,230-acre property in Bryan County, which was potentially eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The agreement required Savannah Land to conduct archaeological testing, mitigate adverse effects, handle artifacts and human remains according to specific procedures, and prepare reports. ...
