General Electric, United Nuclear Agree to Cleanup Uranium Mine

The United Nuclear Corp. and General Electric Co., its parent company, agreed to an estimated $63 million cleanup of a former uranium mine and mill sites on Navajo Nation and federal lands in northwestern New Mexico.

The Environmental Protection Agency, Navajo Nation, and New Mexico Environment Department concurrently filed a complaint and consent decree Monday in the US District Court for the District of New Mexico. The settlement outlines a remedial plan for the Northeast Church Rock Superfund Site.
