Furnace Makers Benefit From Poland’s Delayed Coal-Waste Ban

Poland’s plan to allow coal waste to be sold for another two years for home heating is good news for manufacturers of high-quality furnaces.

The delay will give manufacturers more time to produce furnaces, Boguslaw Hutek, who chairs the Solidarity labor union in the coal-mining region of Silesia, said in a statement. Hutek said he and his colleagues had pressed the government to delay the regulation banning coal waste—the low-energy-value discards of the coal mining industry.

In the meantime, residents, he said, should install filters in the chimneys, which are cheaper than top-class furnaces.
