France Scraps Goals in Nuclear Law After Renewables Backlash (1)

The French government removed nuclear production and climate targets from a draft bill on energy sovereignty amid protests from solar and wind power groups over the legislation’s lack of goals for renewables.

The proposed legislation includes new rules for Electricite de France’s nuclear power sales to rein in electricity bills, which have jumped since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. It also increases regulatory oversight of energy suppliers.
