A trio of former EPA heads said Friday they worry the Trump administration may try to short-circuit the full, legally mandated reconsideration process as it sets about overhauling environmental rules.
The Environmental Protection Agency on March 12 announced more than a dozen regulatory reconsiderations, part of what it called the “biggest deregulatory action” of its kind in US history.
That process requires a reconsideration of the underlying factors that led to the original rule, which usually takes several years and involves notice and comment, said Gina McCarthy, who led the EPA under President Barack Obama.
