The U.S. Forest Service is facing allegations that it violated federal laws by approving a restoration project in the Hoosier National Forest without adequately analyzing the project’s impacts on Lake Monroe, the sole drinking water source for over 145,000 people.
Monroe, along with the Indiana Forest Alliance, Hoosier Environmental Council, and Friends of Lake Monroe, say the Forest Service violated the National Environmental Policy Act and the Administrative Procedure Act, according to a complaint filed by the Monroe County Board of Commissioners in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana on Wednesday.
