Fishing Groups Fail to Stop Massachusetts Offshore Wind Project

A collection of fishing associations in two consolidated cases lost their bid to prevent an offshore wind energy generating facility off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, Mass. that was approved by federal agencies.

Seafreeze Shoreside Inc., along with other fishing groups and businesses, had sued several federal agencies including the Interior and Commerce departments in December 2021 over approvals made for the project. They said the actions violated the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the National Environmental Policy Act.
