President Joe Biden unlawfully used the Antiquities Act to ban commercial fishing in the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument, two fishermen said in a federal complaint.
Congress didn’t give the US president power to ban commercial fishing, so he can’t make “legislative rules for the ‘proper care and management’ of a national monument,” the New York and Vermont fishermen said in their lawsuit. The move imposes significant economic hardships on the fishermen by eliminating valuable fishing grounds and creating longer travel to alternative fishing locations, they said.
