Fishermen Challenge Offshore Empire Wind Project in New Appeal

Commercial fishing groups are restarting a legal challenge to the offshore Empire Wind project, which could power hundreds of thousands of homes in New York.

The Fisheries Survival Fund, other advocacy groups, and local governments filed a notice of appeal Monday to challenge Equinor Wind U.S. LLC’s planned wind development off the coast of Long Island.

The fisheries group and its partners say the $3 billion project would disrupt scallop and squid fishing grounds and harm other marine life. They sued the Interior Department, which oversees offshore leasing, in 2016, but ultimately lost their case at the U.S. District Court ...
