Fish and Wildlife Unveils Plan to Protect Monarch Butterflies

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services has announced a multistate plan to protect monarch butterflies by encouraging transportation and energy companies to develop habitats for them in millions of acres of rights-of-way and associated lands.

The agency and the University of Illinois-Chicago signed a nationwide conservation pact for the monarch butterfly on energy and transportation lands in the lower 48 states. The pact integrates a Candidate Conservation Agreement and a Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances.
