Fight Over Key Amendments Stalls Senate Energy Package (1)

Fierce fights over key amendments to a Senate energy package stalled the measure Monday as backers failed to get the 60 votes needed to move ahead on the bill.

In a sign that supporters will try to resurrect the package, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) changed his vote to “no” as part of a procedural move that maintains his ability to bring it back to the floor. The vote was 47-44, well short of the 60 votes required to shut off debate.
