Environmental groups that sued Norway in an unprecedented move to curb oil drilling in the country’s Arctic waters have decided to take their fight to the country’s top court after losing the initial battle.
Greenpeace and a Norwegian organization, Nature & Youth, will appeal directly to the Supreme Court after losing an initial case in the Oslo District Court in January, the groups said in a statement. The court ruled that the government acted lawfully when it awarded exploration licenses in the Barents Sea in 2016.
