FERC Justifies Approving Tennessee Project Swapping Coal for Gas

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission defended its approvals of a 32-mile gas pipeline proposed to run through Tennessee, saying it acted within its jurisdiction when looking at the project’s need and environmental effects.

Wherever environmental groups claimed FERC should’ve done more is where the commission “appropriately exercised restraint that was mindful of the limitations of its own authority,” FERC said in its brief filed with the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Tuesday.
