Warrior Met Coal nailed down its final federal permits, the Trump administration announced Thursday, allowing some 53 million tons of coal to be extracted in northwestern Alabama.
The approvals were fast-tracked by the White House as part of its broad push to propel the coal sector. Warrior’s coal will be used in steelmaking, which aligns with another of President Donald Trump’s goals—to wean the US away from steel imports from nations like China, Brazil, and Mexico.
