Feds’ Fossil Fuel Plans Violate Environment Law, Groups Say (1)

The Bureau of Land Management violated federal law and a 2018 court order with its plans for fossil fuel development in the Powder River Basin straddling Montana and Wyoming, conservation groups allege in a new federal lawsuit.

The Western Organization of Resources Council, Center for Biological Diversity, Sierra Club, and other groups filed suit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana, taking aim at new resource management plans that cover some 15.4 million acres of federal mineral estate and 3.5 million acres of surface land in the coal-rich basin.
