Federal Court Orders Caltrans to Revise Environmental Analysis for Highway Project

LOS ANGELES—A federal court ordered the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to correct data deficiencies and other errors in its environmental analysis for the widening of Highway 101 through a stand of old-growth redwood trees in Richardson Grove State Park (Bair v. California Department of Transportation).

The April 4 order from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California requires Caltrans to provide accurate maps of trees and to correct information about the diameter of trees and their root structures.
