Federal Agencies Outline Plans to Meet Goals in White House Sustainability Drive

Federal agencies plan to acquire low-emissions vehicles, use more energy-efficient systems, and expand the use of teleconferencing and web-based meetings as part of their strategies to meet sustainability goals required by a 2009 executive order, the White House announced Sept. 9.

President Obama instructed federal agencies to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets for 2020 in Executive Order 13,514, released Oct. 5, 2009, and to formulate plans for meeting those targets (191 DER A-19, 10/6/09).
