A petition requesting that the Food and Drug Administration require labels on genetically modified food was denied, helping groups opposed to mandatory labeling laws passed in states such as Vermont.
The FDA said the Center for Food Safety’s petition didn’t contain sufficient evidence showing foods derived from bioengineered crops differ from non-GM plant varieties in any meaningful way, nor do the foods present any different or greater safety concerns.
