Exxon Sees Hawaii County Join Climate ‘Deception’ Cases (1)

Exxon Mobil Corp., Sunoco LP, and others led a campaign of “deception and denial” about the connection between oil and gas production and climate change, a Hawaiian county says in a new lawsuit in state court.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino announced the suit Monday, which adds to a series of similar claims filed by states and local governments, including Hoboken, N.J., Delaware, and Charleston, S.C.

The oil giants are accused of public and private nuisance, trespass, and failure to warn, according to the complaint filed in the Hawaii Circuit Court of the Second Circuit.
