Exxon Starts Up $2 Billion Chemical Expansion at Texas Facility

Exxon Mobil Corp. started up two chemical production units at its Baytown plant in Texas, the company said in a statement Tuesday.

  • One unit will produce 400,000 tons a year of polymer modifiers used in chemicals that go into automotive products, construction materials and hygiene products.
  • Another will produce 350,000 tons per year of linear alpha olefins used in plastic packaging, industrial oils and surfactants.
  • Project cost $2 billion and was announced in 2019.
