Exelon Seeking Russian Nuclear Fuel for Illinois Power Plant (Corrected)

Exelon Corp. is seeking permission from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to use nuclear fuel from Russia for a nuclear power plant in Illinois.

The NRC is considering Exelon’s request to amend the license for its Braidwood Generating Station southwest of Chicago to allow the plant to use nuclear fuel called “lead test assemblies” from TVEL, a subsidiary of Russian state-owned nuclear power company Rosatom Corp. A public comment period on the license amendment ends Feb. 7.
