Managed charging programs for electric vehicles that will reduce electricity burdens on nearby building infrastructure won approval for New York investor-owned utilities by the state’s Public Service Commission.
The commission’s decision is a key part of the EV Make-Ready program, which directs utilities to develop managed charging programs that provide incentives for charging at times most beneficial for the grid. The commission also advanced the deployment of 50,000 public and commercial charging ports and 1,500 fast-charging ports, according to a Thursday release from Gov. Kathy Hochul’s (D) office.
