European Commission Bans Two Pesticides, Authorizes Four Substances for Biocidal Use

BRUSSELS—The European Commission Sept. 23 published technical regulations banning the pesticides flufenoxuron and propargite from the EU market.

Substance data had been examined by scientific committees, and concerns about the risks posed to consumers, workers, and aquatic organisms “could not be eliminated,” the Commission said.

In addition, flufenoxuron had been found to have “a high potential for bioaccumulation in the food chain,” while propargite had been shown to pose “a high long-term risk to mammals,” according to the regulations, which were published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
